Uncasville, Connecticut, June 28 (Jiji Press)--Major U.S. casino operator Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment unveiled on Friday a plan to launch an integrated resort including a casino in the northernmost Japan prefecture of Hokkaido at a cost of 3.5 billion to 4.5 billion dollars.
MGE is considering hiring 5,000 to 7,000 people for the envisioned IR in the Hokkaido city of Tomakomai.
While the Japanese government plans to allow only up to three casino-featuring IRs to be built in the country, many local governments are in a fierce race to host such facilities.
Local governments hoping to become hosts need to file for central government approval after selecting partner IR operators and drawing up concrete plans. The prefectural government of Hokkaido is now considering the advisability of inviting an IR.
MGE's plan also calls for constructing three hotel buildings, a conference hall and an arena in a forest in Tomakomai. Areas allowing visitors to enjoy horse riding, cross-country skiing and farming activities will also be created.
