In case you don’t already know, red/black is one of the bets you can make while playing roulette.

This is what’s called an even-money bet. It’s called that because you can double your money if you win. For example, let’s say you gamble £10 on red/black and win. Your balance will not be £20. That’s how even-money bets work.

Other even-money bets include odds/evens and highs/lows.

In European roulette, the odds of winning an even-money bet are 48.6%. When you play American roulette, your odds of winning become 47.4%.

Why don’t you have a 50:50 chance of winning a red or black roulette bet? Because of the green zero pocket. Your odds of winning are slightly better in European roulette because you have the second green zero pocket to account for in American variants.

To make red/black bets, place your chips on either the red or black diamonds on the roulette table before the dealer closes the betting window and spins the wheel. When the spin finishes, any payouts you are due will be made automatically.

How to Win at Roulette (Red or Black Bets)

There are a few roulette betting strategies which you can use with red or black bets.

The Martingale

This roulette system works by doubling down on losing red or black bets.

For example, if you lose a £10 bet on red, you can make a £20 bet on red or black next. If you lose that bet, make a £40 bet, then an £80 bet, and so on until you win. Eventually, you win back all your losses plus the value of your original stake.

There are a couple of issues with this system. First, you can only use it on red or black and other even-money bets. Second, the losses can grow so fast that it scares many players off before a win comes. Lastly, you can hit a table limit which means you can’t double down again.

The Martingale system can work temporarily, but it won’t help you win roulette by placing red or black bets every time. You’ll have to be prepared to take a large loss every once in a while to use this system.

The Reverse Martingale

With this system, you again place red or black bets, but you do the opposite of what you did when using the Martingale system.

After a win, you need to double your bet again. Using the same example as above, you would bet £10 and win £20. On the second bet, wager the £20, and if you’re lucky, you’ll win £40. Wager £40 this time, and if lady luck gives you a lucky streak of three, you’re up to £80.

Most experienced roulette players will advise you to stop at this point. Asking for more than three wins in a row is pushing your luck. If you want bigger wins, it’s advised to start with a bigger first bet such as £50 or £100.

The advantage of this system is that you can only lose your original wager plus the house money you have won. If you don’t view it as your money until you have cashed it out, these losses can be a lot easier to take psychologically. The major disadvantage of this system is that it only takes one loss to wipe out all of your wins plus to original wager.

Roulette Red and Black Bets – Conclusion

In the final analysis, the odds of roulette reign supreme. You can try all of the different betting systems and strategies you want, but your odds of winning a red or black bet on European roulette are 48.6%, and that is a mathematical fact. It doesn’t matter whether you’re playing in Vegas, in a live dealer casino online, or are playing video roulette – the odds are the same.

The Red and Black strategy is used in the European roulette. The principle of this strategy is to choose a colour to bet on (black or red) and to double the bet every time your guess isn’t correct. This startegy can be used also on other elements of roulette table – odd/even, 1-18/19-36

The Strategy:

Example:

1. Bet 1 unit on the red.

2. If a black number or 0 falls out, bet on the red again, but the bet now needs to be 2 units.

3. If a black number or 0 falls out again, make a bet of 4 units on the red.

4. If the red number falls out, you have regained everything you have lost previously and won a unit more.

When shown in numbers, it looks like this:

If you had 20 Euros at the beginning of the game, 20-1 (the first bet)-2 (the second bet) – 4 (the third bet) + 8 (the winnings) = 21

This system is based on the Martingale’s probability theory. The chances of losing 6 times or more in a row are 2.13%, which is quite a lot. Of course, the casinos make sure that they do not get played upon and have limits of the maximum amount of a bet. This limit is usually 500 Euros.

Advantages Of This Strategy:

No roulette strategy is safe and has some risk involved, but in this one the risk is quite small

Tips For Bigger Profits

It is recommended to play with smaller bets in order for this system to gain profit because then you double the bet more frequently
There are casinos where the minimal bet in roulette is 0.1 Euros, and these are the ones I would recommend to start with. For example, if you have 30 Euros and start with a bet of 0.1 Euros, you will be able to double your bet 8 times, which significantly reduces the chances of you losing.

Fibonacci is a very interesting roulette strategy because it is safer than other strategies, for example, the Black and White or Martingale’s system. But it does not reduce the potential of the system to earn some money. This system is more popular in mathematics, where it is called the Fibonacci sequence. The principle of the Fibonacci sequence is that every next number of the sequence is the sum of the previous two numbers.

An example of a Fibonacci sequence:

1 – 1 – 2 – 3 – 5 – 8 – 13 – 21 – 34 – 55 – 89 – 144 – 233 – 377 – 610

The Strategy:

After it’s clear how every number in this sequence is created, you can start using the strategy. First of all, this strategy can be used on black or red, odd or even and 1-18 or 19-36.

The principle is quite similar to the Black and Red strategy, but this time after every loss you have to bet the number that comes next in the Fibonacci sequence.

If you lose several times in a row, you lose more money. You win only if you win in the first spin. You “even it out” if you win on the second or third spin, but you just continue losing further on.

Right now you’re probably thinking that this system is just a waste of time and it’s not worth trying it, but hold your horses. This is how you can gain the most out of this system:

Follow this sequence until you win!

Bet 1 unit and lose.

Bet 2 units and lose.

Bet 3 units and lose.

Bet 5 units and lose.

Bet 8 units and lose.

Bet 13 units and lose.

Bet 21 units and lose.

Bet 34 units and win.

After you have bet 34 units and won, the next bet is the number that is two places before this number in the sequence. So, your next bet would be 13. This process needs to be repeated again and again until you are back at the beginning of the sequence – after every win you should move back by two numbers of the sequence! Here is a more easily understandable example of how the system works:

Bet 1 unit and lose.

Bet 2 units and lose.

After you will have returned at the beginning of the sequence, your winnings will be the amount of 1 unit, similarly to that in Black and Red system, when by doubling your bets your winnings in the end are also 1 unit.

The main difference between these systems is that in this example we made a bet of 21 and lost, but had we used the Martingale’s system, the bet would have been 256! So there is no doubt that the Fibonacci system is safer.

A big advantage of this system is that in this example we lost 12 times and won only 7 times, but the outcome was still positive. This strategy is a little bit more complicated than the others, but the chances of winning are significantly higher.

Some additional notes:

As you can see, the number 1 has been put twice at the beginning of the sequence. If you use the sequence and have to go backwards, you need to return to the first “1” and place a bet again, otherwise you will just have evened out the score and not won anything.

If you don’t understand what I mean by that, the second number “1” has been made bold – 1 – 1 – 2 – 3

In this situation you need to go back only by one step.

Advantages Of This Strategy:

Can be profitable if you are lucky and get back to the starting point fast

Disadvantages Of This Strategy:

Quite confusing and not so easy to use as other roulette strategies
Can be very time consuming

When using this strategy, have a limit on the maximum amount you can lose, so you don’t lose all of your money

D’Alembert roulette strategy is one of the safest roulette strategies because after losing the bets are increased by a significantly smaller amount. This system can be used by making bets on either the black or red, odd or even, 1-18 or 19-36. Mathematical calculations don’t allow using this strategy on tenths, columns or separate numbers.

The Strategy:

When using this system you have to choose, for example, the pair and bet a certain amount on it. If you lose, you need to increase the bet by 1 unit and if you win, you need to decrease it by a unit. The math behind this is that if you have the same number of wins and losses, you will have won the amount as big as the total number of bets (see the example below)

Strategy example, if we choose the beginning bet of 5:

Bet 5 units and lose.

Bet 6 units and lose.

Bet 7 units and win.

Bet 6 units and lose.

Bet 7 units and win.

Bet 6 units and win.

Bet 5 units and lose.

Bet 6 units and win.

When calculating it comes down to: 0-5-6+7-6+7+6-5=4

As you can see in the example, there were 4 wins and 4 losses, but this system makes sure that if you have had an equal amount of wins and losses you will always be the winner!

To use this strategy you don’t need a lot of money and, because of the small increase in bets, you will never reach the table limits

Disadvantages Of This Strategy:

The possible amount of money won is quite small, knowing you’re risking with your own money
There is a very small possibility that in the long term your win-lose ratio will be equal

Tips For Bigger Profits

When using this strategy, have a limit on the maximum amount you can lose, so you don’t lose all of your money

Almost every roulette strategy includes some kind of an arithmetic progression which increases the bet after every loss. But in the flat betting roulette strategy you will not find such a strategy. There is a set bet that you make. When using this strategy you can expect either small winnings or small losses.

The Strategy:

For example, if you’re playing the European roulette, spin the wheel 37 times and bet on the red every time. If everything would happen according to the books, you would win 18 times and lose 19 of them (18 black and the 0 ), so you would have lost a unit.

The biggest problem of the flat betting strategy is that the casino always has the best chances of winning (because of the 0 ). That is why most people use this strategy when betting on individual numbers or when making a split bet.

The advantage of this strategy is that if the number you have chosen falls out at the beginning, you win more. On the other hand, you might have to wait for a long time until that happens.

This is a very simple strategy that does not need a lot of explanation. It is very similar to the D’Alembert’s strategy. This system is used when placing bets on red or black, odd or even, 1-18 or 19-36.

The Strategy:

This system has 4 parts: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4

The idea of this system is very simple. When you win you increase your bet by 1 unit until you reach 4. When you lose, you leave the amount of the bet unaffected. The aim of this is to win by 1 unit. When you have won the unit, you need to return to the bet of 1, no matter in which part you are at that moment.

The golden rule of this strategy is: return to 1 every time you have won 1 unit. It does not matter which part you are in, 2, 3 or 4! You also need to remember that after losing a bet you need to leave the amount of the bet unaffected.

Example:

Bet 1 unit and lose.

Bet 1 unit and win.

Bet 2 units and win.

The calculations: -1 – 1 + 1 + 2 = +1

We have won 1 unit, so we need to return to the first bet and start all over again.

A longer example:

Bet 1 unit and lose.

Bet 1 unit and win.
