The Summer Train
The summer schedule offers daily, round-trip service from Durango to Silverton with the option to ride back on the train that afternoon. Visitors also can upgrade to a bus return for a scenic drive over the San Juan Skyway aboard a comfortable motor-coach bus. There are between one and three departure times depending on the date.
Plan for a full day for your train ride – the standard round-trip excursion is 3 1/2 hours each way with a 2-hour layover in Silverton, giving guests time to have lunch on their own and visit the shops in historic downtown Silverton. Train Up / Bus Return trips take approximately 2 hours off of the return time. Bus Up / Train Back trips depart later in the morning from Durango.
The Winter Train
In winter, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad runs a special Cascade Canyon excursion, which takes visitors to the beautiful Cascade Canyon Wye short-stop, about half-way to Silverton. This runs round-trip on a varied winter schedule – departing at 9:45am from the Durango Depot and returning at approximately 2:45pm with a 55-minute layover in the forest at the Cascade Canyon Wye. The winter train runs on a varied scheduled from November to early May.
